Skin Health
Is your Skin Healthy?
One of the most obvious signs of general health and vitality is a glowing and healthy skin. This is fundamentally related to the skins optimal functioning and incorporates the following:

Protection - the skin is a physical barrier for microorganisms and insulates living tissue from chemical and electrolyte loss. The pigment (melanin) helps to absorb the harmful ultraviolet radiation, and the mast cells provide immunity.

Regulation of Body Temperature - the blood vessels, seat glands, fat deposits and hair follicles can be controlled and adjust to regulate the core body temperature. The blood vessels constrict or dilate to regulate the blood warmed by metabolic processes or to be colled by the evaporation of the sweat.

Respiration
- essential for life, we breathe through our skin!

Excretion - Sweat functions to excrete salts, water and other organic wastes as needed and assists in the bodies homeostatic regulation.

Sense organ - touch, pain, pressure and temperature

Medical Spa

Medical Spa Services and Products

Medical grade skin care is only as effective as the products used and your aestheticians knowledge of skin physiology, product treatments and therapies (peels), and finally, client education. We strive to continue our education and then offer our patients the best possible solutions available today. So where do we start....

What are you trying to achieve with your skin care - correct, prevent, maintain or prepare. Skin correction is applicable for most men and women over the age of 30 and sadly even younger. As we spend time in the sun--not just by the pool, but everyday exposure without proper protection we are causing sun damage. The signs are not immediately evident, but show themselves years later as wrinkles, brown, and red spots, and skin cancer to name the most common.

Prevention is generally the smallest percentage of our clientele and should be the highest. Protection should begin at the youngest age possible (product dependent) and continue on throughout life. We are not fortunate enough to have the earths protection from the suns harmful UVB and UVA rays. Many times patients profess that they do not spend time in the sun, but fail to realize that even on a cloudy day you are still getting harmful rays damaging your skin. Any direct or indirect sun exposure can be harmful. The key is protection--thus prevention!

Maintaining your beautiful skin is the process our patients strive for after they have corrected the surface damage. Yes, this can be reality. Skin can be rejuvenated--the clock can be turned back, but not with over-the-counter products. Overt-the-counter products are not permitted to contain the percentage of necessary active ingredients to generate rejuvenated skin. The FDA sets the precendent for your protection. Just as these products can be reujvenating they require physician direction.

Many of our patients that choose to have rejuvenatory surgery prepare their skin for better surgical results. Remember, surgery only tightens the canvas....it does not repair the surface (except for laser resurfacing. This procedure does provide some correction). Some of our patients choose to spend several months prepping their skin and working toward surface correction, while others chose to wait until after surgery. The choice is yours...although we encourage you to consider starting prior to surgery to maximize the results.

Not only do you need to now what you are trying to achieve, but also how quickly you want to achieve results. Customized skin care is possible! We can set the pace. We offer several products and treatments that give you the option of choosing between very aggressive correction to slow correction. Some choose to take it slow, expecially if they have several events. Corrective skin care will require some changes in your skin. Although it is non-surgical and has no real downtime, it will cause your skin to go through some changes. Your face may be red, peely or oily or dry. This is only the result of skin rejuvenation. Some choose a very quick process and want aggressive skin care. The point is we try to customize this to your timetable and lifestyle.
