Browlift Surgery

CONSIDERING BROWLIFT SURGERY

Wrinkled forehead, sagging eyebrows, a heavy feeling in the forehead, loss of peripheral vision (from obstructive, droopy eyebrows) - these normal hereditary and/or age-related changes influence many of our patients to discuss this "state of the art" procedure with us. Our many years of combined experience and use of the most current techniques enable us to give our patients wonderful outcomes…that restore a more alert, more youthful look.

Are you a good candidate for browlift surgery?
If you notice any of the changes mentioned above … you are in good health and you have realistic goals and expectations … this procedure can give you outstanding results. Raising the brows can help redefine the upper face and help change those "sad" expressions to "glad ... more youthful" ones.

Your initial browlift surgery visit or consultation.
This visit is very important since you and your plastic surgeon will discuss in depth your concerns and make decisions about what is best and right for you. A complete health history will be taken and we will evaluate your face, skin, areas of concern and talk about your different options. Many times patients choose to combine multiple facial procedures to achieve the best overall results.

Preparing for browlift surgery.
Following your consultation and after you've made a decision, we will give you complete instructions to help you prepare for your surgery. We always recommend a nutritious diet, limiting vitamins and medications to those prescribed only, and will advise you that smoking and alcohol can interfere with any procedure and slow healing/ recovery time.

Have a responsible adult drive you to and from our office the day of your surgery and stay with you overnight. Please arrange in advance for someone to do this for you.

BROWLIFT PROCEDURE OVERVIEW

Browlift procedure options.
Coronal, high forehead or midforehead lift involve elevating the forehead and eyebrows and removal of excess skin. This lift repositions the eyebrows, smoothes out horizontal creases, and diminishes wrinkles between the eyes. Direct and Indirect eyebrow lifts require removal of a small wedge of excess skin above each eyebrow and placement of permanent sutures in underlying muscles to hold them in their new position. These procedures are most commonly performed endoscopically. This is a safe, simple, well perfected procedure which allows the Doctor a wide range of options.

The outcome of these procedures is an improved eyebrow position and appearance… along with lifting and smoothing the entire forehead if you so choose.

Where browlift surgery is performed and how long it will take.
We perform all our procedures at the Hawthorne Surgical Center. Browlift surgery usually takes from two hours, but will take longer if you chose to have multiple facial plastic procedures.

Browlift surgery recovery.
You will be carefully monitored by a nurse in a recovery area until we determine you are ready to go home Although pain and discomfort with this procedure are usually minimal … you will be given pain medication as needed to assure your complete comfort. Cold packs may also be used to minimize swelling and bruising. A light dressing may be applied … and you may be given a tight headband to wear for several days to hold your eyebrows in their new position while that area heals.

Getting back to normal after browlift surgery.
Usually in one or two days - you should feel much better. There will be swelling and bruising for at least 10 days after surgery - elevating the head and use of cold compresses help minimize and control this. Some feeling of numbness in the scalp is common … this also goes away as you heal. You may be able to return to work in 10-14 days. You must avoid any and all vigorous activity for several weeks. You may use "camouflage makeup" to cover any bruising while you heal. Be sure to ask us about this!

The eye area makes a big statement about the rest of our face! High arched eyebrows go along with youthfulness ….. droopy brows can convey an older, sadder appearance. Frown lines and creases likewise oftentimes convey an angry look even from the calmest person! Eyelid/forehead lifts go along with tuck, facelifts and skin resurfacing…. These are all part of today's "facial rejuvenation" programs.
